MaxLeafSoft Documentation Has Moved

As of today, all online documentation for MaxLeafSoft apps has moved to Github Pages. MaxLeafSoft.com is hosted on Google's Blogger.com platform, and while it's not a bad place to keep a blog, it just doesn't lend itself well to displaying clear, easy to read documentation. MaxLeafSoft.com will continue to be updated with news, announcements, and programming info.

Github Pages takes considerably more effort as I'm having to learn markup vs. using a WYSIWYG HTML editor, but the flexibility allows me better control over the content. I have been tweaking the Sync2Folders Pro help, for example, and while I'm sure it will take some more effort to get it just right, it's already looking much better than it ever did on the MaxLeafSoft.com website.

For now the Sync2Folders Pro post will redirect to the new location, but in a future update to Sync2Folders Pro, the Help menu item will go directly there.

I wish you all a great 2020!

Sync2Folders Pro vs. Lite

Sync2Folders started out as a tray-based app that synchronized on a timer. Every XX minutes it would sync files from the source, which was always a folder on my work laptop, to a virtual machine. This kept my VMs up-to-date with the latest utilities and supporting files. That original version of Sync2Folders worked fine for one way synchronization, but it didn't do bi-directional syncing at all.

I created Sync2Folders Lite next. This was an experiment to see if that same technology could do bi-directional syncing. And it worked pretty well. But when I updated the tray-based app to use the latest version of the syncing library, it didn't work quite as well. I never really looked into the reasons why.

Which spawned Sync2Folders Pro. Whereas Lite was built upon the same technology as the original version, Pro is an all new design. It is built for one thing and one thing only: To be the best comparison and synchronization app it could possibly be. It was created with bi-directiona…

How Does Sync2Folders Pro "Compare" to Other Apps?

One question that will be asked is, "Why should I bother downloading Sync2Folders Pro?", and that's a great question because really, who wants to mess around with yet another Windows 10 app unless it does something other apps don't do?

I'll just provide you with a few points to consider:

Sync2Folders Pro compares the date/time and versions of files - Sync2Folders Pro doesn't compare the contents of files. It doesn't compare file sizes. It compares the modified date and times of files, and in the case of executable files (those with the extension .EXE or .DLL), it can compare the version info.Sync2Folders Pro doesn't compare file contents - Comparing file contents is very important when comparing source files, for example, and in many other situations. Sync2Folders Pro doesn't compare contents at all, nor can it sync file contents line-by-line, which means if you're looking for an app that can do that, Sync2Folders Pro is not it. Sync2Folders Pr…
